Lake Taupo - Think Fresh
Getting to Lake Taupo is half the fun - and now it's never been easier using the Thermal Explorer Highway, a new concept in touring. This is one of New Zealand's classic touring routes and is part of the Great New Zealand Touring Route. It commences in Auckland and then passes through the lush green countryside beside the Waikato River and on to Rotorua. From here it travels through towering pine forests to Lake Taupo before heading east to Hawke's Bay and the twin cities of Napier and Hastings.

A hop on, hop off minibus service, A great way to get to the Volcanic Activity Centre, and of course explore the rest of Taupo. (Including Craters of the Moon and Wairakei Thermal Valley.) It departs from the Tourist Information Centre on Tongariro Street on the hour and arrives at the Volcanic Activity Centre 15 mins past the hour. Prices range from $5 return to $15 for a day pass.
